Exercises 2008

Exercise Hurworth

         Sunday 14th December 2008

Fire crews from 3 brigades came together for this exercise to test their ability to pump large quantities of water in emergency situations; the scenario was that part of the reservoir wall at Hurworth reservoir near Peterlee was thought to be in danger of collapsing and pressure had to be relieved quickly to prevent a serious flooding situation.

Crews deployed High Volume Pumps and a single line of hose was laid from Hurworth Burn Reservoir to Crookfoot Reservoir – a distance of approximately 7 km.

This type of exercise is a vital training opportunity and fire crews from Northumberland, Tyne and Wear and County Durham and Darlington worked together in a very successful and testing scenario.
