Promotion & Management
Local Authorities have a responsibility imposed by the Civil Contingencies Act (2004) for the promotion of Business Continuity to local businesses and voluntary organisations. The main purpose of this additional duty imposed solely upon the local authority, is to highlight the need for businesses to build a Business Continuity Management culture into their own organisation in order to increase local, regional and national resilience within the U.K.
County Durham and Darlington Civil Contingencies Unit works with all partner organisations in order to produce a joint strategy for Business Continuity Promotion within County Durham and Darlington.
The County Durham and Darlington Local Resilience Forum have endorsed the establishment of a BCM forum consisting of Category 1 and Category 2 responding organisations. The group meets on a quarterly basis in order to share expertise and knowledge and develop shared strategies for BCM practice.
The Civil Contingencies Unit has worked with this group in the production of BCM Promotion Resources such as a Business Continuity Management Information Pack and Leaflet for local businesses and voluntary organisations and the BCM Self Assessment Guidelines. The group is currently reviewing its membership in order to include further representation from local business advisory organisations.
